BLACK HAWK MINE NEVADA
Mining was for the birds

Unoccupied Historic Ranch
Mineral County
Circa - Unknown

The Black Hawk Mine was located in the Excelsior Mining District which was active since the early 1860’s. It was later claimed by the Marietta Mining District following the founding of the nearby town by the same name. According to mine records, Galena – A lead ore was the mineral extracted from this mine. At the mine site remains two old cabins, the mine assay office and a well preserved mine shaft. We explored in to the shaft by approx ¼ of a mile and still had not reached the workings.

Careful not to mistake the site for the three other Black Hawk mines located throughout Nevada; there is also a Black Hawk Mine in Nye County, Nevada. A Black Hawk Mine in Pershing County, Nevada. And last but not least, a Black Hawk mine in Storey County Nevada.
