MOHO NEVADA
What did the pimp say when he ran low of money?
Unoccupied Ghost Town
Mineral County
Circa 1903
Moho Nevada was A small mining settlement that sprouted on the East side of the Excelsior Mountains following the discovery of gold in 1903. A true ghost town by todays standards with remains that include a couple of small wood structures that may have served as homes, lots of foundations, a mine head frame and several mines that litter the mountain side above. During our last trip to the area in 2009, we were able to navigate our way to the Moho Mine, high above the town site. Being the largest organized mine of those situated in this area of the excelsior mountains would be an understatement. The mine tunnels are wide enough to drive a truck through, still contain the narrow tracks that once rushed ore carts through its dark caves and by all signs appears safe to explore.
What exactly is Moho? Moho is a geologist term describing the area between the earths crust and the mantle below the earths surface.
